Maria arrived, with my new Blue Jays jersey in toe, on Wednesday afternoon. Since that point, it has been a whirwind of learning for her. Luckilly she has the best teacher ever! Last week saw me doubling up on my normal duties, as I was not only the GAW lab operator for the week, but also the acting Booze-O. Our mess manager went down to Eureka for a few days, and asked me to attend to the ins and outs and what-have-yous of the Arctic Club and Wolf's Den in his absence. I handled it pretty well, I must say, but I don't think that I'll be re-mustering to a Navy steward anytime soon (come to think of it, I don't think it's really referred to as "re-mustering" when you start off as a civilian - maybe just "mustering"). I just noticed that I really did a lot of self-promotion in this particular edition of the weekly news - that's to take your minds off the fact that this particular weekly report is almost three days late. That's all for now. Lates, --K Kevin Anderson Alert Baseline Operator Well, after an overnight delay in Iqaluit, I arrived safely in Alert last Wednesday to be welcomed in by Wendy and Kevin (who had an original welcoming sign). Things have been going pretty well so far and while I think it may take a few weeks to really get to know how things run up here, I'm starting to feel more comfortable and I've basically just been taking the past week to get settled in. On Saturday, one of the guys from the Zoo arranged a trip up to Crystal Mountain and we were lucky enough to spot 3 Caribou on the way which let us get as close as about 150 feet from the BV! On Sunday, Kevin took a few of us out for a long hike across the bay for most of the afternoon, so the whole weekend was definitley a good start to my stay in Alert. So far everyone has been really friendly and I'm enjoying going to out to the lab. Well, I guess that's it for now. Bye, Maria Maria Vavro Alert Baseline Operator (In Training) Hello, It's nice that Maria is now a part of our team, and I have been having fun showing her around this week. The weather has been very mild, but the wind is still chilly. I really enjoyed our DOE hike day on the weekend. The three of us went out to Sickle Point, and saw some Ptarmigan flying around. I can't seem to think of much to say this week, so this is the end. bye for now Wendy Frise Assistant Baseline Operator
