I'm writing this on Tuesday morning, while Maria and Wendy already wrote their sections during the weekend. At any rate, I can assure you that the weather did not get any better, and the Dumbell Lake clean-up thing that Maria mentions did not take place. I wasn't too sad, because I wasn't really planning on doing it anyway (can you notice the I've-been-in-Alert-for-a-year syndrome kicking in? :-) I'm actually starting to feel a little weird about leaving this place (cue the nostalgia). Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be leaving next week (or at least "scheduled" to leave next week), but there are a lot of things I'll miss for sure. What I won't miss, though, is the severe lack of regard for proper spelling that seems to be rampant in the military. They are doing this new thing where they are awarding certificates of service to the civilian personnel of Alert. So this morning at the monthly medals parade I received mine - only it was a certificate for one "Kevin Andersen", whereas I am "Kevin Anderson". Man, a year up here and they can't be bothered to spell my name correctly. Oh well, at least they got it correct on my CO's commendation! That's all for now. Lates, --K Kevin Anderson Alert Baseline Operator Hello everyone, It's been a hectic week here in Alert with most shops on station helping out at the lab with the SEARCH equipment set-up in one way or another - Celine knows how to get them on their toes! Wendy, Celine, and I had planned a morale dinner for Thursday night, but I was unlucky enough to get swollen glands on Tuesday, so I spent alot of my time this week hiding in my room trying to rest rather than contaminate everyone else's food. The meal was delicious though and Vimy threw a "WILD costume party" afterwards. I was prepared since I brought my halloween costume from last year and dressed up as an 80's aerobics exercise girl with legwarmers, an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt, and of course spandex! Most of the BoxTop crew arrived this week, so the station has gone up in number quite abit. It was also a busy weekend around station with TGIF being postponed to Saturday afternoon. Last night, BINGO was put off by an hour after an exercise drill, which left about 30 of us stuck in the Arctic Club for 45 minutes- always an exciting way to spend a Sunday evening! The rest of August should be just as busy with visitors to the lab beginning to arrive this week and BoxTop continuing, so I'm sure there will be more stories to tell in the next update. Take care, Maria Maria Vavro Alert Baseline Operator (In Training) Good Morning I had a lot of fun this past weekend. Celine and I cooked a morale dinner for Vimy on Thursday. We made GAW Lab Goulash, garlic bread and salad. The dinner was followed by a costume party filled with men dressed up as women - what a strange fad. I dressed as a cow, Celine was a cowgirl, and Maria looked hot in her 80's aerobics girl outfit. We danced on Saturday, rested on Sunday and are now ready to get back to work. I also signed up for the boxtop olympics next weekend and am really excited to go for a brief trip to Thule before I leave next week. Hope you are all well Wendy Frise Assistant Baseline Operator
