I'm beginning to get the feeling that all my updates start with that sentence. It always surprises me how quickly time passes here and how it can seem that there isn't enough time in the day. Last week, Sandy and Hayley arrived to visit the lab for a week. Hayley is here to install filters for a new passive sampling program and Sandy is performing some maintenance operations to her Mercury instruments. A small group of media personnel arrived on the same flight and are trying to cover what life is like in Alert. Let's just say they are finding it difficult to get the real story from anyone. One of the cameramen came out with us this morning to do some filming, watching us all in action. Tomorrow afternoon, all of them will be visiting the lab for a tour and a brief explanation/overview of the history and purpose of the GAW lab. It's a great opportunity to get some publicity for the programs, so once I hear when any of the articles or news programs are to be aired, I'll let you know. Take care, Maria Maria Vavro Alert Baseline Operator Good morrow! Well this week was interesting. The media was invited by the military to do some reporting so the military gave all the people on station some training on how to dance around the truth. I agree with not having to tell all the truth to the media, but not when you invite them here. Oh well. Sandy at least was interested in telling the truth about her/our work when the media arrived, but she did want to hide me when I was playing Freecell. Vimy had a party. A good one. IT was packed in there from 9:30-2:00am. We made lots of money and showed the station that we can have fun too. I was bartender for a lot of the night and the DJ. Hardly good at either one, but it was a great time. Have a good week Chad Guertin, Assistant Baseline Operator
