For a change from working out at the small gym, I've started running while ball hockey is on so I'll stay distracted and hopefully that will keep me on the treadmill for longer (in order to work off all those cappucinos I've been indulging in!)- so far it's working! On Saturday night, the Arctic Club hosted a "the Grinch Who Stole Christmas" party and held prize giveaways. They also collected money for a children's charity and raised $350. Prizes ranged from a digital camera to fleeces to mugs. I was unlucky however and my name was the last to be picked from the hat, so I came away with the last prize - a Christmas cracker. When I opened it, my big prize was a keychain and 1/2 a crown- at least we all got a good laugh at my expense!!! This should be a busy week with a showtour arriving tomorrow for a few days. Actually, three planes are due to arrive this week- high expectations when it is sometimes difficult to have one land in a week! Well, that's it for now- I'm sure everyone is gearing up for the holidays... any more snow lately? Take care, Maria Maria Vavro Alert Baseline Operator Hi, Hi everyone! This has been a good week for me, I'm in a great mood and also looking forward to the activities planned for us this comming week. There is a showtour with various artists/entertainers arriving on tuesday and leaving thursday. And this saturday a friend and I will be putting on a mini show ourselves. We decided that we'll play a quick set of 5 songs --should be quite fun. This thursday, as I took the Old Ford out for it's bi-weekly (maintenance) drive I ran into some troubles. --This time, someone from the orderly room came along for the ride since she doesn't get outside as often as she would like; I was going drive out near the TX building to give her an idea of where Maria and I work. ...Well i didnt' even get half way! As i was driving along a straight stretch the steering wheel began jerking and pulling the truck in different directions..it seemed like quite an odd problem, but not long after i figured it out. As I stepped out of the truck peeked at the front end, it was obvious that the tie rods had given up. One of the tracks was pointed inward, in the opposite direction of the other..looked liked the truck was crosseyed!. I jumped back into the truck, got on the radio to summon recovery, and as Maria happened to turn her radio on in the office, she responded to me. It was somewhat of a sixth sense for her, since her radio was merely on for 30 seconds before I called out "DOE recovery". This might have been a really good thing, since it was approaching lunch time, and most, if not all the military personnel had left their stations and getting a response on the radio may have been a long and difficult task. So for this week Maria is my Hero! Goodbye Chad Guertin, Assistant Baseline Operator
