Currently we've got two Hercs stuck here. The first one is from the usual Wednesday arrival. It was on it's way in from Thule when it was announced that the plane was being diverted back to Thule, and then later announced that it was in fact coming to Alert. Turns out that one of the windshields had broken on the plane. So that Herc was grounded when it arrived until it can be repaired. A second Herc was sent up on a bit of a repair mission, supposedly bringing with it a new windshield and I imagine some sort of epoxy or bonding materials that would set in the extreme cold due to our lack of hangar. THEN, when the second plane was due to set out this weekend, they had gotten everone all worked up for departure (including those waiting to go home since Wednesday) only to find that the engines won't start. As a result plane number 3 is set to arrive on Tuesday and take off same day. We'll see how that goes... -Karl
