ALERT REPORT: Week 28. Sunday July 9, 2006 - Saturday July 15, 2006 Prepared: July 17, 2006 ******POWER OUTAGE REPORT****** - 191j Power outage @ 1313z for ~ 5 seconds - 191j Power blip @ 1735z ******POWER OUTAGE REPORT****** ******OZONE LEAK REPORT****** On July 10th, from approximately 1745z to 1945z instrument 373 was intermittently used to identify and trace an Ozone leak that originated from the NOx instrument located beside the PAN GC. For brief periods of time the inlet filter was detached from the manifold and placed in different areas of the Old Lab, and Old Lab Pump Room. When the decision was made to use 373, it was expected that the concentrations were low. This was not the case. Background levels in the Old Lab ranged from 300 to 500ppb. With the inlet in the Old Lab Pump Room 373 returned a value off 18ppm at breathing heights. At this point the inlet was set on the ground so that the NOx instrument could be shut down. However, with the inlet now immediately adjacent to the pumps, 373's display now read 73ppm. It is unknown when this leak occurred, however it is my opinion that it has likely been this way since early April when plumbing modifications were made to the PAN GC and NOx system. As of yesterday instrument 373 was reading a value of 28ppb, and 347 a value of 21ppb. Normally these instrument have been in good agreement, with 373 consistently reading 2ppb high than 347. ******OZONE LEAK REPORT****** THINGS WE NEED: *The items will be left on the list until they are physically received in Alert.* - Log books!!!! - "AAA" Batteries (Not until Fall) - New Face Shield for NaOH Change - Mop Buckect - Trap Sample bottles - Packing Tape - Scotch Tape - BOOTS - Quartz Sample filters - P-5 gas - Spare dual stage / and siungle stage pumps (GAST) for Aerosol Equipment Please note: Inventories are current as of the date the report is written unless stated otherwise. It went really well this week, a lot of people showed up and the mess gave him 30$ for prize money. This week, Brad, Lee, and I were lucky enough to get helicopter rides! Wednesday afternoon, some of the pilots had some free time and put out a sign up sheet for rides. It was awesome. They took 6 people at a time and we flew over the base, and went to see the herc crash site. Some people spotted seals from the helicopter when they were flying over the ocean. The pilots also took us through a valley which was crazy; they got really close to the ground and went side to side between the walls of the valley. Friday night Monsters had a mug-in and a party, I missed part of the party because I worked the bar, but it was still going after midnight, they had 121 bells! Saturday afternoon, Lee and I went to Crystal Mountain with some of the Chimo guys. We were there for a good 5 hours, there was a little bit of an issue when we couldn't find our way back down the mountain with the BV, but we ended up making it back ok. Lee and I both found tons of crystal, and lots of cool rocks to bring home. Saturday night the Zoo had a party, it was ladies night! All the ladies were allowed 4 free drinks, (1 free bell), a lot of the guys, (including Lee), dressed up as girls in hope of getting free drinks, of course it didn't work. It was a great party, really packed and they played music videos all night. The weather has been really warm lately, it's about time! We have given up on the sleds and are now using the rickshaw. We have some terrible news though, our white fish, Gibson, is sick. He has a sore on his side, and we saw him swimming sideways. Today he is swimming normal but the sore has gotten bigger, hopefully it goes away. That's it for this week!
