This readme file documents the contents of the data made publicly available in support of the manuscript entitled 'Subseasonal Predictability of the North Atlantic Oscillation', which is published in Environmental Research Letters (Albers and Newman 2021). Questions about the data can be directed towards John Albers at: john.albers@noaa.gov There are two overall types of data available for download: LIM hindcast files (DJF, 1979-2017) and LIM climate run files (roughly 300,000 days). For each data type, three categories of data are available: full LIM data and two types of 'nonnormally filtered' data. The two types of nonnormally filtered data are denoted by either 'internal_subspace' or 'stratosphere-SST_subspace' in their file name string. For the LIM hindcasts, files with names similar to 'LIM-mslp-hindcast_1979to2017.weekX.nc' refer to the week 'X' mean sea level pressure (mslp) LIM forecasts. For the LIM climate run, files with names similar to 'gh-LIM-climate-run-X1toX2.nc' refer to geopotential height data from the climate run for integration days X1 to X2. For the climate run gh data, the data are anomalies computed by removing the first four seasonal harmonics and the time mean; dividing by the domain averaged root mean square amplitude; weighting by the square root of the cosine of latitude.
