Logs

 

Documenting our observations through logs was an important component of our field efforts. We recorded in these logs the details of the measurements as well as our general qualitative impressions of ice properties, processes, and evolution. Three types of logs were kept:

Daily logs - Each researcher kept a personal log recording the day's observations and happenings. These logs include everything from metadata to the dinner menu. In these logs you can also meet the members of the ice team and learn about some of their experiences at SHEBA.

Bridge logs - Each morning before breakfast a member of the ice team visited the bridge to note position, air temperature, wind speed and direction, ship's heading, and comments on conditions. 

Helo logs - For each helicopter survey flight the flight path, waypoints, and times were documented. In addition, flight members noted their observations and impressions of the ice cover.

In addition to the logs, we also made maps showing the experimental layout.
