May 27, 2012 Total collection time: 1400-2000 UTC Files are named by the specific time period of collection. Location: 15 meters SE of MSF, and just outside IcePIC shed. Collection times were typically very short, enough to catch one or two good crystals. Description: Major precipitation event, characterized by warm temperatures (-15 to -8 C), high RH (98%), moderate to strong winds from the S and SW. Many stellar dendrites, stellar plates, and plates. Large mm-sized crystals. Much riming, some riming is very heavy. Rime seems to dissipate into the afternoon. Corresponds to evening balloon launch (sonde bounced on snow, but data still looks OK). Sky images included. Note sideways snow blowing across IcePIC shed, where crystals were captures in the lee.
